I love writing. I truly do. I have two blogs of my own and binders full of abandoned scripts and stories to prove it. But there are few things, (mustard, mayonnaise, and digging holes) that I dislike more than being told that I must write. This is one of those occasions. With all the powers of apathy and aloofness I could muster I really hoped that this ‘blog deadline’ would past by unnoticed. But alas it has not.
Which brings me to the moral of this story and how it relates to business. If you’ve got a project, initiative, campaign, or what have you….make sure you hire the right person for the task. The right credentials and a track record of excellence doesn’t guarantee that the work will be done properly. Nothing trumps dispassion when it comes to quality of work. If you give the job to someone who isn’t passionate about the task in front of them you’ll get something that is half baked and half assed…..like this blog post. It seems like a no brainer right? Yet I’ve seen it happen time and time again in business. People rush out to hire the big fancy schmancy agency only to be disappointed when the results fall flat. Heed this advice. Hire a company or person that is brimming with passion (and of course talent) and you’ll get the best of them.
